Extra Grace Required

I have a friend in Staten Island who is probably one of the wisest women I have ever met.

She is always poised, cool, calm, and collected.

Whenever she dresses for work there is never a hair out of place or a crinkle in her pencil skirt.

Her kitten heels never fail to glide her elegantly across a room and she is never without a smile – even in the midst of someone who may have momentarily forgotten their manners.

This woman’s professional experience has helped her develop great wisdom. She knows about life, business, and how to deal with every possible type of personality.

One of her favorite expressions is “EGR.” It stands for “Extra Grace Required.”

The first time I heard this acronym I instantly fell in love.

How many of us have had experiences where we all need to be a little more graceful, humble, and perhaps even merciful?

God forgives each of His children when we sin. He does this because He loves us.

We only need to be humble enough to admit when we require some of the Lord’s “EGR.”

We need to call out and say, “Hey God, I really screwed up. I hurt someone. I made a bad decision. I am on the wrong path.”

And when we do this, God will extend His merciful grace, and perhaps a little “extra” to get us over that momentary hump in our lives.

However, if we choose to remain prideful or think we can do things on our own, then we are destined to repeat the error of our ways.

We need to be deliberate with our relationship with God. We must trust Him every step of the way. We must lean on Him. He won’t let us fall. He is our life-long partner.

And while there will undoubtedly be moments when we lose our way or encounter a situation where we have not been the best version of ourselves, we can still depend on Him.

God will never miss the opportunity to extend the “Extra Grace Required” that each of us needs from time to time.
