Hey Holly: Can Blind People Cut Their Own Meat?

Hey Holly:

I have been wondering this for years…Can blind people cut their own meat? If you have a steak, do you need someone to slice it for you?

Sincerely, Meat Lover

Dear Meat Lover:

If I am being totally honest, your question makes my toes curl. As a professional, I have been out to many events and have had numerous people assume they needed to grab my plate and cut my chicken or steak. I am forty years old. Not four. Blind people are perfectly capable of cutting their own meat and feeding themselves. That being said, I have been in the presence of people who are blind or visually impaired that do allow their significant others to cut up their dinner. While I would find that incredibly obnoxious, it appeared to work for them. Different strokes for different folks, but not for this New Yorker.
